    The new edition of the opera The Makropulos Case has been edited by PhDr. Ji?í Zahrádka, who has been curator of the Janá?ek Archive at the Moravian State Museum for 20 years and has written numerous studies on the life and work of Leoš Janá?ek. His latest publications include the book ‘Theatre must not be Comedy for the People’. Leoš. A troubled love affair fraught with mistrust develops between the two. Eva resists Paul’s probings about her personal story and the history of the Venetian house where he is staying. The novel is inspired by Janacek’s opera The Makropulos Case, in which a singer lives for nearly years – a questioning of what it would mean to be.

    The new edition of Janácek’s penultimate opera “The Makropulos Affair” is a reconstruction of the work’s original version, which shows only a few deviations from the final version.
